Job Description:

The Director of Building and Grounds is responsible for all aspects of care and presentation of the facilities of the Mechanicsville Campus. The Director will work closely with volunteers to present and maintain an environment that is safe, clean, and welcoming for all events held at the Mechanicsville campus.

This position requires a manager / leader experienced in managing both projects as well as people. It requires a self-starter with a heart for excellence in presenting the church facilities to the community.

As the Director of Building and Grounds, this person will provide vision and leadership to a team of volunteers, never letting them forget why they do what they do, and why it matters to God.

  • LEADERSHIP: The church is, by design, an organization of volunteers. Every staff member must excel in management of self, teams, and others.

  • EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE: The church is a collection of people; therefore, interpersonal and listening skills are necessary for every staff member.

  • COMPUTER PROFICIENCY: Must be comfortable working with computers and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Gmail, and Google Drive.

  • COMMUNICATION: Professional written and verbal communication skills required; Oral communication skills are essential - must be comfortable and articulate speaking to a crowd.

  • DISCERNMENT: Must be able to discern needs and respond appropriately, sensitively and proactively.

  • SELF-STARTER: Must be a catalytic leader and self-starter who not only gets things done, but makes things happen.

  • COACHING: Recruit, train, manage, care for, and appreciate volunteers and teams. 

Job Responsibilities:

●      Ensures facilities are clean and ready for all events, services, etc., and cleaned after each of these as well.

●      Wash windows monthly except for the lobby, which is done weekly; This includes office windows.

●      Stairways are swept, mopped, and dusted for cobwebs weekly.

●      Management of the facility for all services and events to include opening, closing, and alarming the facility. Advised by staff if they need to be there.        

●      Maintains the proper seating capacity in the auditorium.     

●      Secures funds for and make sure a police officer is available for all Sunday services and special events to help with traffic.        

●      Treats baptismal pool water as needed and make sure the pool is covered after every use. Set up pipe and drape around the pool as needed.

●      Oversees maintenance and repair for septic system. Oversees lighting, inside and out, excluding stage and auditorium. Recruit and manage contractors for maintenance that cannot be completed internally.

●      Oversees and maintain the air system and make sure thermostats are set properly throughout the week and in and during all events.

●      Arranges for the building to be power-washed, yearly.

●      Ensures repairs to walls (cracks, holes, paint, etc.) throughout the facility are completed in a timely manner.

●      Schedules cleaning of carpets and floors throughout the facility; Twice yearly or as needed.

●      Maintains fire management systems including alarm systems, and extinguishers on a yearly basis.

●      Performs small plumbing repairs as needed.

●      Schedules refinishing of tile floors. 

●      Manages and helps with all painting and beautification projects.

●      Oversees the upkeep of lawn and landscaping (landscape Company). Includes watering all outside plants and flowers.

●      Maintains a clean parking lot and ensure parking lots and sidewalks are clear of snow.

●      Maintains outside lights - parking lot, signs, and on building.

●      Adjusts outside light timers throughout the year to maintain proper lighting of buildings and parking lots.

●      Oversees cleaning and straightening of chairs for every service and special event.

●      Oversees the setup and cleanliness of all rooms, hallways and staircases.

●      Oversees room setup and take down for all staff events.

●      Schedules volunteers for parking lot teams, special projects, and long term facilities care.

●      Oversees all work days (special projects, etc.).

●      Provides spiritual leadership by investing in the spiritual growth of volunteers, and providing care to the team members.

●      Plans team events and meetings outside of the Sunday service to build community and unity.

●      Submits an annual budget for review.

●      Maintains ministry expenses within the budget.

Hours:

●      Requires a minimum of 40 hours/week Sun-Thu. Some nights and weekends may be required.  Easter and Christmas Eve are required.

●      Expected office hours are: Monday - Thursday 8 am-5 pm with 60 minute  lunch break, and Sunday 7:00am-3:30pm with a 30 minute lunch break.

●      Vacation, healthcare benefits and a 403B retirement plan are available after 90 days of employment. Atlee Church will contribute to 403B after 5 years of full time service.

●      Communicating an anticipated change in schedule is required, so that your supervisor and staff are informed of your whereabouts.

This is a  Full-Time Director level position.

The average work week should encompass a minimum of 40  hours per week as the norm. Variances to this schedule need to be approved by the manager of this position.
